Meet Earl McGrath

Earl McGrath was a bit of everything. A record executive, an art dealer, a screenwriter, and a film executive. He counted the biggest names in film, music, and literature as his closest friends. But he’s most known for his association and support of the biggest musical acts of the 70s and 80s. He partied with the Stones, he discovered Hall & Oates, and he corresponded with Jack Kerouac. When he died in 2016, his apartment was discovered to be a treasure trove of papers and correspondence, but also tons of never-before-heard demos and songs from tons of amazing musicians.

Earl’s Closet

Over 200 tapes were discovered and purchased from the estate, and then journalist Joe Hagan and producer Pat Thomas catalogued, researched, and compiled them into the epic collection Earl’s Closet: The Lost Archive of Earl McGrath, 1970-1980. This album features songs from The Jim Carroll Band, Hall & Oates, Shadow, Norma Jean Bell, and more. We’re so excited to get this in stock, and hope you will check it out!
